adidas Originals NMD_G1
$220.00
Adidas NMD shoes are considered modern classics, with excitement following whenever a new model is announced. In the JD Sports Australia range, you’ll find several versions of the famous running sneaker, including the original NMD_R1, the NMD_R1 V2, and the 360. Available in sizes for men, women, and kids, these come in high-demand colourways, from white to black.
The Debut of the NMD_R1
The first iteration of the NDM, called the R1, dropped in December 2015 (the same year as the Ultraboost) during a special launch event in New York City. The shoe’s designer, Nic Galway, VP of Global Design at adidas, aimed to balance the old and the new, looking to previous releases (such as the Boston Super, Micropacer, and Rising Star) while implementing the newly introduced Boost technology in the sole. This performance-ready tech provides additional comfort and responsiveness, which was required to live up to the NMD’s primary inspiration—that is, the lifestyle of a traveller, a ‘nomad’ (a word that, when shortened, becomes ‘NMD’).
In addition to Boost, the R1 also takes advantage of another modern innovation: Primeknit. This fabric keeps the foot ventilated and stretches during movement so the wearer can perform at their best. Furthermore, on the side of the shoe are two plastic midsole plugs (one at the front, another at the back), and these offer additional support, keeping the shoes in perfect condition for longer. They’re not just practical add-ons, though; these plugs give the NMD some extra visual flair, with the frontmost plug featuring the adidas Trefoil logo.
A Worthy Successor: the NMD_R1 V2
When the R1 became a success, it only made sense for adidas to start working on a second model, and so they did—it was called, quite simply, the NMD_R1 V2. At first glance, you’ll notice that this version doesn’t deviate too much from its predecessor, but it does put more emphasis on the branding, and there’s an extra heel tab that connects to the EVA inserts in the sole.
