Vans is a brand best known for its extensive range of casual sneakers, which have become especially popular among the skateboarding crowd. Since landing on the scene in the ’60s, Vans has thought up some of the best, most enduring shoe collections in the game: the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi, Rowley, Cruze, and more. These trainers, available in various colourways, have directly influenced the trajectory of street culture, with men, women, and kids from all walks of life lining up to cop the latest releases. If you’re a modern-day trendsetter with a taste for the classics, the JD Sports Australia line-up of Vans shoes and clothing has you covered with all the best high tops, low tops, and off-the-wall attire (from T-shirts to socks).
When Were Vans Shoes Created?
The Van Doren Rubber Company, which would later be called ‘Vans,’ was created in 1966 by four entrepreneurs interested in revolutionising the footwear industry: the Van Doren brothers (Paul and James) and their partners (Gordon Lee and Serge Delia). Their initial footwear selection was small, but their Deck Shoe proved a hit with customers, encouraging the brand to keep growing.
Years later, Vans had become a household name, and skateboarders were one of their most common groups of customers. The canvas uppers, waffle soles, and stylish silhouettes that defined their sneakers drove lots of interest, and lines such as the Old Skool became instant classics, which is why they’re still being sold today. Though footwear has always been the primary focus of the brand, they also design several items of apparel, including T-shirts, hoodies, and shorts.
