The adidas Campus, a widely enjoyed member of the Originals line, is a timeless sneaker ripped straight from the archives of the 1980s. With its simple yet captivating suede upper (complete with the famous three stripes of the brand) and rubber outsole, the collection has made quite the impression on the footwear community, who are always looking for the next big thing, even if it’s simply a new take on a pre-existing retro silhouette.
In the JD Sports Australia line-up of adidas Campus shoes, you’ll find loads of variations of the collection, including the modernistic 00s and old-style 80s. These are available in different colourways: black, green, pink, blue and more.
History of adidas Campus Shoes: 00s and 80s
Like many classic sneakers of the ’80s, the adidas Campus landed on the scene in the form of a basketball shoe. It possessed all the hallmarks of what was considered go-to footwear at the time (and today), featuring a sport-style appearance that blended nicely with the casual aesthetic of jeans and a T-shirt, among other conventional clothing choices. Naturally, it didn’t take long for the shoes to abandon the court and take over the avenues of everyday life, and decades on, you can still see the Campus being worn by fashion-conscious individuals.
As mentioned, there’s more than one version of the silhouette, with the most popular iterations being the Campus 00s (from 2022) and 80s (from 2010). The main difference between them is that the 80s aim to retain the appearance of the original release, while the 00s stray away from the familiar, boasting a larger, chunkier appearance similar to sneakers of the 2000s (with a thicker sole, wide laces, and more prominent side stripes).
