What Is the adidas Spezial?

To find the origins of the famous Handball Spezial, we need to travel back to 1979, when adidas decided to try their hand at releasing a shoe for the indoor sport after which the collection is named. This high-performance shoe was quickly adopted by several handball players from Holland, Germany, and Scandinavia. Still, it didn’t truly develop a following until it was worn by the pioneers of the ‘casual’ soccer movement, a cultural revolution that saw traditional sportswear being repurposed as day-to-day fashion.
