Whether you’re a committed runner or a certified trendsetter, the adidas Ultraboost is an essential addition to your sneaker collection. With a Primeknit upper, a plastic shell forming the three-stripes logo, and (as if we could forget) the widely lauded Boost sole, this modern performance/lifestyle shoe is as functional as it is stunning to look at. At JD Sports Australia, you’ll find the standard Ultraboost alongside its fashion-first DNA cousin, both in several different colourways, including triple white and triple black.
Introducing the Ultraboost: ‘The Greatest Running Shoe Ever’
Posited as ‘the greatest running shoe ever,’ the adidas Ultraboost 1.0 came out of the gate with high expectations when it dropped in 2015. Its key selling point was the Boost sole (a cushioning material made from compressed pellets of the brand’s trademark eTPU polymer), which adidas touted as providing a 20% bonus energy return in comparison to the commonly used EVA rubber.
Though adidas’s claims about Boost technology seemed almost too good to be true, in 2014, an athlete by the name of Dennis Kimetto proved its efficiency by wearing a pair of Boost-supported sneakers during his record-breaking run in the 2014 Berlin marathon, which saw him smash the previous world record by a respectable 26 seconds.
Despite additional publicity by runners such as David Villa and Yohan Blake, the Ultraboost didn’t find its feet until it transcended the performance category and made the shift to the fashion market. Why did this happen? The music scene—that’s why. When shown front and centre on the Billboard Music Awards stage, the Ultraboost became the latest must-have silhouette, and sneakerheads clamoured to get their hands on it, eager to embrace the shoe’s street-ready design.
