The Evolution of the New Balance 574

The New Balance 574 was first released in 1988, thought up by designer Steven Smith, who’d previously worked on some of the brand's other footwear collections. He wanted to make a fresh pair of trainers that would emphasise both durability and breathability, meeting the non-negotiable criteria of casual and professional athletes.

With the addition of an ENCAP midsole (complete with EVA foam and a polyurethane rim), the reasonably priced running shoe became an instant hit, providing excellent levels of comfort and support. Considering that these sneakers are still on the wish lists of runners to this day, it’s safe to say that Smith succeeded in giving the people what they wanted.

Fast forward to the modern day, when sneakers like these are all the rage inside and outside of the fitness world, and you’ll find that the NB 574 has grown into an all-rounder, a lifestyle shoe whose purpose is not only to be functional but also to promote style. And these trainers have always been stylish, with the large ‘N’ logo and suede side panels giving them a clean yet attractive look.
