Air Jordan shoes have been at the forefront of sneakerheads’ minds since the ’80s, when NBA legend Michael Jordan wore the first pair of AJ1s in a game for the Chicago Bulls. Though they originally appeared on the basketball court, these items of footwear have been favourites of the street for many decades, with trendsetters lining up to cop the latest releases from the Jumpman brand. Browse the JD Sports Australia range today, and discover the best retro sneakers and slides from ‘His Airness.’
When Were the First Air Jordans Created?
Designed by Nike creative Peter Moore, the first pair of Air Jordans (the AJ1s) made their debut in 1984. With the amount of attention they received, in large part because of the fines given to His Airness for wearing the unconventionally colourful sneakers, it wasn’t long before these high-top basketball shoes were making waves in the footwear industry.
Unsurprisingly, the massive success of the original Jordans incentivised Nike to continue making more variations of the shoes, and years later, there have been dozens of collections, which include the popular AJ4 and AJ11. These vary in style, with some having a low, mid, or high collar, but what they all share is that signature Jordan feel, complete with the Jumpman logo.
Retro-Style Jordan Slides
Jordan shoes don’t just encompass sneakers; they also extend to sliders, which come with as much style as their court-ready counterparts. These are great for more casual settings, such as the home or the beach, so if you’re looking for a comfortable addition to your footwear collection, you can’t go wrong with a pair of Jumpman-branded slides.
