A Brief History of adidas
The adidas brand finds its roots in 1924, when Adolf ‘Adi’ Dassler, an entrepreneur from Germany, set about providing athletes with gold-standard equipment. Today, the company is recognised as one of the biggest sportswear manufacturers, continuing to drive interest with its timeless collection of shoes and clothing.
It was in 1936 that adidas truly started to cultivate a large following, with runner Jesse Owens wearing a pair of shoes given to him by Dassler in the Olympics taking place in Berlin. The brand’s positive reputation was further cemented throughout the ’50s, during which time professional soccer players could be seen wearing 3-Stripes boots on the pitch.
