Discover the Nike Air Max 95 at JD Sports Australia. This hugely popular sneaker, a running shoe turned lifestyle icon, is available to purchase in several colours, including black, white, and grey. On top of this, we stock both the Ultra and Essential, allowing you to choose between modern and retro models.
A Brief History of the Nike Air Max 95
In 1995, the release of the Nike Air Max 95 marked a dramatic shift in the sneaker landscape. The silhouette, debuting as a performance runner, stood out from the crowd with its distinct rippled effect on the sidewalls and its vibrant colours, which included neon.
During the development stage, this design was placed in the hands of Sergio Lozano, who Nike hoped would bring a fresh perspective to the Air Max family. Thankfully, he didn’t plan to disappoint. His inspiration came from human anatomy—the midsole was the spine, the layered side panels muscle fibres, and the laces ribs.
A bold silo in every way, the kick was soon picked up by sneakerheads, becoming a certified street classic. Notably, it was the first sneaker to use two Air units, which provided a more complete feeling of walking on air. It shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that the Air Max 95 remains one of Nike’s most popular collections decades later.
Introducing the Ultra and Essential
In the JD AU line-up, you’ll find two of the most recognised versions of the collection: the Nike Air Max 95 Ultra and Essential. The first of these, the Ultra, is a streamlined update of the original design with a lighter weight and narrower frame. The Essential, on the other hand, doesn’t change what made the kick so successful in its early days; instead, it maintains all the key features that fans have grown attached to.
