Browse the JD Sports Australia range of three-stripes products, and discover one of the best collections from the brand: the adidas Originals Gazelle (Bold and Indoor). Available in women’s sizes, these sneakers are a must-buy for anyone who enjoys retro-style footwear, bringing the silhouette into the present while hanging on to the classic appearance that made it famous to begin with.
Though the overall aesthetic of the re-released collection is practically identical to its decades-old counterpart, our Adidas Gazelle women’s shoes have received some modern updates, with the latest add-ons (such as three-tier platform outsoles and cushioned interiors) ensuring that they can keep up with the competition. What’s more, you’ll find loads of fresh and familiar colourways—pink and green, for example.
The Evolution of the Collection
Of all the sneakers throughout adidas history, the Gazelle is one of the most enduring. It first hit the scene in 1966, at which point it was not the casual shoe it is today but a premium-quality trainer built for athletic performance. Upon release, there were two primary versions: one red (for outdoor use), another blue (for indoor use). They looked relatively similar, colours notwithstanding, but closer observation showed that they provided different levels of traction.
When the Gazelle landed, one of its biggest selling points was a suede upper, which was unconventional for the era, surrounded by an endless supply of leather shoes. The idea was for the shoe to be extra lightweight, and unsurprisingly, people gravitated toward it, conscious of the edge this would give them in sports such as handball and football. However, adidas has since debuted a leather Gazelle, mainly because the collection is no longer performance-first. Instead, it has been adopted by the lifestyle crowd, whose priority is, above all, style and trendiness, two qualities that the Gazelle continues to have in droves.
