New Balance 9060 sneakers invite the 2000s back into the spotlight, taking the best elements of the familiar running shoes from the era and using them to create something fresh. The result is a pair of trainers designed for casual and athletic wear. If you’re eager to try out a modern pair of kicks with retro influences, the JD Sports Australia line-up has you covered with the latest drops, including eye-catching colourways, from grey to pink.
The Beginnings of the New Balance 9060
Released in 2022, the New Balance 9060 is the success story of a collaboration between senior footwear designer James Lee and fellow designer Yue Wu (who was also involved in the development of the 2002R ‘Refined Future Pack’). In their mission to create an entirely new model that would pay homage to the brand’s heritage, Lee and Wu looked at classic releases such as the 990 series and the 860v2. The idea was to bridge the gap between the old and the new, the retro and the future, and for the two designers to ultimately put their own spin on things. And put their own spin on things they did: this spin came in the form of purposeful exaggeration, all with the intention of conveying motion.
The NB 9060s took what worked from their predecessors and evolved those features in a way that was both natural and obvious. On initial viewing, the upper makes an immediate impression, with a reflective logo on the tongue and an oversized ‘N’ on the side panels. These visual elements are, of course, combined with New Balance’s top-of-the-line ABZORB cushioning and the heel-positioned CR device borrowed from the 990, which serves to control the motion of the wearer. Whether you want to go for a jog or relax with some friends, the NB 9060 is indeed a versatile item of footwear.
