Embrace the retro aesthetic with the Air Jordan 1 range at JD Sports Australia. This iconic silhouette is available in low, mid, and high styles, and there are loads of unique colourways, including black and white. Since the creation of the OG AJ1, the sneaker has continually impressed with its classic silhouette and premium-quality leather upper, appealing to fans of the NBA and your everyday trendsetters.
Who Designed the Air Jordan 1?
In 1984, basketball player Michael Jordan (who at the time was still a newcomer on the NBA scene, playing for the Chicago Bulls) signed a historic deal with the Swoosh brand. This deal led to designer Peter B. Moore creating none other than the Nike Air Jordan 1 high top, a sneaker that would go on to become a legend both on and off the court.
The AJ1 gained media attention when Jordan took them for a spin across several professional games, breaking the NBA’s long-standing rule that all sneakers worn by players needed to be predominantly white—the AJ1 was white, red, and black. The punishment for breaking this rule was a $5,000 fine, which Nike paid on behalf of His Airness.
After its public release in 1985, the Air Jordan 1 became an immediate hit, elevated by the rule-breaker reputation it had achieved. Sneakerheads were eager to get their hands on the ‘banned’ basketball shoes, and it didn’t take long for sales to soar to new heights, much like the Jumpman silhouette (the brand’s logo).
How to Wear Air Jordan 1s
If you’re familiar with the Jumpman brand, you don’t need us to tell you that the Air Jordan 1 is a staple of the fashion scene. However, a little extra knowledge about style goes a long way, so let’s talk sneakers, shall we?
The first decision you must make is which AJ1s you want to represent. The low and mid versions are perhaps the most adaptable, pairing seamlessly with most casual attire because of their lower profile, but the highs have that hard-to-resist classic appearance. Whichever style you go for, the best thing to keep in mind is to make them work for your pre-established look. There are plenty of AJ1 colours to choose from, so grab a pair that either matches or complements your palette. And remember to keep it casual! Tees, cargo pants, hoodies—these should be your clothes of choice.
