New Balance has a history stretching all the way back to the early 1900s, when the brand embarked on its mission to provide enhanced comfort by selling arch supports. Today, NB is not just a provider of footwear accessories but also a well-respected creator of shoes and clothing for men, women, and kids. Some of the brand’s most popular collections of sneakers are the 550, 530, 327, 9060, 574, 2002R, 990, and 1906R, which can all be found in the JD Sports Australia range.
The Start of New Balance Sneakers
Founded by Irish immigrant William J. Riley, the Boston-based company New Balance got off the ground running in 1906 with the launch of its innovative three-point arch support, a shoe accessory that laid the foundations for success to come.
Decades later, the brand was a trusted name in the footwear space, but it had yet to commit to making its own sneakers. This changed, however, when Eleanor and Paul Kidd (who had purchased the company in 1956) debuted the Trackster. With a first-of-its-kind rippled sole, this running shoe promised to be the answer to many an athlete's prayers, gaining popularity among educational institutions in the Massachusetts area.
Why You Should Buy New Balance Shoes
What many fans will notice about modern New Balance runners is that they don’t tend to use conventional names, instead opting for model numbers, such as 327 and 550. This non-standard approach was decided in the ’70s, at which point the company fell under the guidance of Jim Davis, who had a significant influence on the exponential growth seen by the brand in later years.
NB further sets itself apart from the competition by emphasising the wearer’s unique requirements. For example, since the debut of the Trackster, the brand has offered its collections in a multitude of widths, which serves the interests of both athletes and sneakerheads looking for a more comfortable fit.
