The North Face is a brand defined by adventure. Since 1966, it has been encouraging people of all ages to go outdoors, explore, and overcome obstacles most would’ve never thought possible to summit, providing the tools to endure the harshest climates (and look stylish while doing so).
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Half Dome brand is a leader in the fashion scene, as much a trendsetter as it is an innovator. Inside every jacket, every vest, and every beanie is technology designed to protect against the elements (like a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane and DryVent fabrics), and the outside is just as impressive. It’s unsurprising that TNF, despite originating as a brand for adventurers, has built a following of style icons, all lining up to see the latest drops, whether that’s a re-release of the Nuptse or an entirely new creation. Browse the JD Sports Australia range to find out what makes this brand so widely appealing.
What Is The North Face?
When Douglas and Susie Tompkins founded The North Face in the ’60s, their aim was to help climbers and hikers in their pursuits. This ethos is encapsulated in the company mantra: ‘Never Stop Exploring.’ They helped people accomplish their goals by selling various types of equipment, from backpacks to clothing (including fleece jackets, beanie hats, and puffer vests).
In the late ’90s, TNF found its customer base expanded, with those beyond the climbing world learning about the brand through the music scene. Hip-hop artists, such as the Wu-Tang Clan, could be seen wearing their newest jackets, putting these stylish items front and centre in their videos. Though TNF has maintained its reputation as an exploration brand, its influence on the fashion scene cannot be ignored.
